Watershed

May 2018 brought with it some of the highest water levels on Clark Fork River ever. I remember looking out a window overlooking the Clark Fork and being in awe of it’s power as it carried giant trees crashing through the middle of town. I once was taken down by the undercurrent while fishing in Montana, wading only a few feet deep, and it left me with a realization of the power of River water. But the power of the Clark Fork in spring of 2018 was a site to behold. As I painted watershed I thought of that day and I thought about the allegory of life. How many times have I tried to control the goal and direction, fighting against the natural current. Watershed is about letting go to the greater power. It’s about losing fear. As I was painting I knew I was experience a watershed moment of drastic change and those paints were my way of accepting. And I could never have imagined where it has led me.
